Forever
and a Game

He was denied his childhood.
Hers was slipping away.
A deck of cards brought them together.

Remarkably Bright Creatures meets Defending Jacob

Sam Heller has spent his life keeping people at a careful distance — a habit built early and never quite unlearned. Then Felicity, his boss's lonely eleven-year-old daughter, draws him into her world of Mystic Forest, a card game she plays mostly alone. What starts as a kindness becomes something neither of them expected: a found family neither one knew they needed. But underneath the friendship, something else is moving — a quiet act of corporate sabotage that will test how far Sam is willing to go for the people who've become his.

"I wish you were my dad."

Sam has spent a lifetime learning to look away. Not this time.

The Author

Jason J. Herne

Jason J. Herne is an awkward soul from the Southern Tier of New York, where he spends his days with his wife, their three children, and a multitude of bonus kids who wander in and tend to stay a while. Forever and a Game is his debut novel. When he isn't pretending to be a writer, he's usually cycling, reading, or making the kids' lives a little brighter, one silly joke or pointless adventure at a time. He writes the kind of stories he often lives — ones with heart, a little trouble, and people worth rooting for.
